Kevin Bryant passes away

It is with an extremely heavy heart that I pass along word that Kevin passed away last night at approximately 7:20pm CST. (Kevin is pictured here with fellow IWU Class of 2008 members Jason Bloom, Darius Gant, and Brian Nussbaum.)
-
In order to let the family grieve, please refain from making contact at this time. Details regarding the funeral arrangements are below.
-
I had the pleasure of getting to know Kevin over the course of his four years at IWU, via his involvement in the Sigma Chi fraternity and the Titan basketball team. Kevin embodied everything Illinois Wesleyan, CCIW, and Division III athletics stands for. As a senior who played limited minutes on the varsity this past season, he did not develop a negative attitude. Instead, he becames IWU's hardest worker at practice every day, doing his part to make his teamates better...a contribution that had a lot to do with how well IWU's young players performed in game action in '07-08. His work ethic and attitude is something all of us should learn from.
-
Kevin fought the good fight. He touched the lives of many of will be dearly missed.
-
Godspeed, KB.

What a tragedy...while we only had he pleasure of knowing KB for this past year, he stood out as one of the true Titan leaders, especially for the freshmen. He was always the first one to jump to his feet during games to cheer on his teammates and according to our son, worked harder at practice than anyone else. He embraced them as friends and they all grew to respect and love him. I know that all of the boys are deeply affected by this, and to say that they will miss him greatly is an understatement.

We send our thoughts and prayers to his family, and especially to his parents. What they are experiencing must truly be about the worst that life can throw at you.

Kevin was as great of a person as he was a teammate. It's difficult to try and talk about this right now, but I was able to become fast friends with KB, just as most of the people that met him. Kevin was charismatic and loyal, and made an enormous impact on everyone that he came into contact with. To his family, please know that in the time KB did have with us, he touched each and every one of us, and we will certainly miss him. My sincerest condolences...

I am Sigma Chi who does not know Kevin. I just happened to come across this article, but my thoughts and prayers go out to Kevin's family and friends.
I have linked to your article through my "sigma chi" website here. Maybe it will help reach others.

I am so sorry. At tragic times like this words never seem to be enough. KB was one of the great people Mike and I were privileged to meet over the past year at IWU and respresented all of the good qualities of the IWU basketball program and the IWU family in general. Over the past week Mike has shared many fond stories about KB both on and off the court. KB was a great teammate and person - he was fun to be around, he worked very hard, he was tenacious at practice (no one wanted to be defended by KB)and enthusiastically supported his teammates. KB was loved and respected by everyone he came in contact with, and epitomized what D-III sports and being a great teammate are all about. He was a classy kid who made his family proud.

We can only echo the kind thoughts of everyone else, and send our thoughts and prayers to his family. We will certainly miss him. God bless KB and his family.

Kevin Bryant was as special as it gets.
My memories of Kevin as a player are that of a determined young man.He started off his junior year out of the rotation and worked his way in.Unfortunately an injury did him in.
As a senior Kevin showed why he was so special. He rarely played, but you couldn`t tell from his actions, he was a team first guy. After a game I often look at player reactions. I remember that KB,Nuss and Jason Bloom were genuinely happy after a win and thinking what an indicator that was to the character of those 3.
I have personal knowledge of how special Kevin was. I have a special needs son. My son Jason is "different". It can sometimes being a little trying being the idolized IWU basketball player with Jason ,but you sure couldn`t tell when you saw Kevin and Jason together.
The best compliment I can give is that my lasting memory of Kevin Bryant won`t be with his uniform on. It will be seeing Kevin and Jason sitting behind the bench together when KB was hurt. Jason had his arm around Kevin and Kevin had the kindest smile you can imagine on his face.
As I said, a very special person who will be greatly missed but always remembered with the utmost fondness.

My thoughts go out to Kevin's family and friends and the entire IWU community at this time of terrible loss. While I never knew or met Kevin, i have been part of the D3 basketball world since 1988. I've coached young men for a long while now and today's news brings back many difficult memories.

Losing a young person who has their entire life ahead of them is tragic. I hope that everyone can remember Kevin with a smile on his face and the joy of youth in his heart.

My deepest condolences to all of you.
