Kevin Bryant involved in rafting accident

Recent IWU graduate Kevin Bryant (pictured left) was involved in a serious accident while white water rafting yesterday. Below is an e-mail sent by Jason Bloom to several people.

Please keep Kevin in your prayers.
----------
For anyone who hasn't heard, KB was in an accident rafting in Colorado yesterday and is currently in a medically induced comma. After a recent communication with KB's mom Teresa, here is what she had to say.

She said she had been trying to get KB to respond and thought he just squeezed her hand. She said the doctor's are most worried about the damage to his lungs - he took in a lot of fluid and gunk. She also said they were trying to reduce the sedation so they could try to determine what the status of his brain activity is - I can't even hardly type that because it seems so unreal.

She said that from what they are hearing so far, he will likely have an extended hospital stay as it will take some time for him to recover but she is optimistic that he will. She said his face was pretty banged up as was his right hand but other than that, he seemed pretty good physically.

She also mentioned that the doctors are thinking he was under more like 3 minutes which is better than they had heard originally. The boys who were with him had done a great job getting him out (he was trapped under the raft) and had successfully done CPR quickly.

Keep thinking about him and praying for him. As long as we all pull together hard enough, I think we can pull him through. We all know he'd do the same for us.

Some people have requested a location and address to send things to be there when he wakes up:

Medical Center of the Rockies Room 2108
2500 Rocky Mountain Ave.
Loveland, CO 80538
Hospital ICU Phone: 970-624-2100

I'll keep everyone posted as best I can. Again, if anyone is tough enough to get through this it's KB. Feel free to email or call me.

I am the sister of Bill Jones who was with Kevin at the time of the accident and haven't stopped thinking about Kevin and all the boys involved. They are all in our prayers and we have high hopes for Kevin and his recovery. We are so thankful for the help and the staff at the hospital that he is at and continually pray for wisdom from the doctor's and nurses. Kevin is a young and healthy young man and we continue to have faith that he will pull out of this. We are so excited w/ every good update that we get. Please keep us all up to date as to what is going on and let us know what we can do to help.

I am the grandmother of Bill Jones (one of the boys that was with Kevin on the rafting trip). Kevin is on our family prayer list. I know that Billy is just so very sad over this whole situation and he is also praying for Kevin. When Kevin awakes please tell him there are many prayers in Georgia going up for him. We also pray for Kevin's family and for the boys that were with him. Thank God that they knew the right things to do and did not panic.

Thank You all so much for your prayers, concern and support. Please keep praying for Kevin. He is still very critical. Please pray for our family and the young men and woman who were with Kevin. (Ryan B, Alex, Bill, Ryan P., Casey, and Kory). They saved his life. We have seen so many positives come out of this experience, especially the unbelievable character, love and strength of the young men and women who are his friends and family. We feel your strengh. Kevin is having an MRI of the brain today. Please join us as we pray that God's healing hand will bring him to wholeness. THANK YOU! Theresa and John Bryant

I am a good friend of KB’s from college and was on the raft when the accident occurred. This past week has been extraordinarily difficult to say the least, but it is encouraging to know that Kevin has so much strength and is more than capable of bringing himself to a complete, successful recovery. I can speak on behalf of everyone who knows and are friends with KB in saying that we share the deepest of concerns. Kevin and his family will remain in our thoughts and prayers, and I encourage everyone to stay strong, just like KB.

I can't imagine what kind of week this has been for Kevin and his family. My son Alex was with Kevin at the time of the rafting accident and I thank God the boys knew what to do at the time of this horrible crisis. I'm optimistic that with each passing day Kevin will only get better. If there is anything anyone of us can do to help in anyway, please just ask.
Sincerely,
Chris Wereminsky

I lived with KB our senior year up in the loft apartment. I go to illinois state and it was a pleasure to have a roomate like KB. He was always the life of the party and I never thought i'd miss being woken up in the middle of the night by KB blasting music but now I forever will. I want to wish all of his family the best and let them know that i will miss him greatly

Sincerely

I met Kevin back in the 2nd grade when we played Tri - City football together. We were runingbacks together for the next 5 years. I found myself looking up Kevin a lot and we used each other a lot for advice and help and support on and off the field. I remember practies, games and Superbowls with him. I also recall he always worked hard with a good attitude. Truly a great person to have around. He was an incredible athlete and an incredible person. I want to let the Bryants know that my family and I are praying for you each day. God Bless you.

I am the cousin of Bill Jones and I have been praying non-stop since I heard about the accident. I am so sorry to hear about KB. It never seems to make sense when a life has been taken too early. May the family feel the love and support of family and friends and the peace of God in their heart.

I was a roomate of Kevins friend Bill Jones this past semester so I had a chance to get to know Bill, Alex, KB and Ryan and learn what a great group of guys they were. From my short time together with Kevin I could see he was one of the the nicest, most welcoming guys I've had the pleasure to come across. My thoughts and prayers have been constantly with his family and friends. God Bless.
Soncerely Yours,
Kyle Manthei
