Good start

IWU 89
BU 79

A nice "W" to start 2009-10 with. Benedictine was 19-6 last year, returned a bunch, and is picked to win the Northern Athletics Conference this season.

Opening game takeaways...

* Doug Sexauer is a load. IWU's 6-7 junior looks poised for a monster season. Nice to see the Titans get him the ball.

* Sean Johnson came out of the gates strong, which is great to see. After a huge freshman campaign, Sean's sophomore season was, well, so-so. Sean has a chance to be the best 2-guard in the CCIW this season...he gives IWU a tremendous outside presence to keep the defense honest.

* The Titans have great depth. When you can bring the likes of Ryan Connolly, Jordan Zimmer, Sean Dwyer, Matt Schick, and Duncan Lawson off the bench, you are a very deep basketball team.

* The Titans gave us nothing to get excited about yet on the defensive end. BU scored 49 points and shot 48% from the field. That's the side of the floor we all have to keep our eye on...if this team can defend, it could be a powerhouse.

At the end of the year, my guess is a win over Benedictine will be a nice thing to have in the pocket - they should go on to have a solid season. Not a bad start for the Titans.

Next game - Wednesday vs Webster, at home.
